The Guys Are Props Club Blog Tour: Review & Giveaway

Hi Everyone, welcome to my stop on the Guys Are Props Blog Tour, hosted by Dianne at Oops I Read A Book Again, you can follow the entire tour here

Title: The Guys Are Props Club
Author: Ingrid Seymour
Date of Publication: July 15, 2013

Genre: New Adult Contemporary Romance

Blurb:
During her senior year in high school, Maddie Burch promised herself not to ever fall for a cute guy – or any guy – again. Cute guys are players and not to be trusted, a fact she learned the hard way when her first boyfriend ran her heart through a paper shredder. Two years later, her promise is still intact, and she’s determined to make it through college without falling victim to another creep. She has her job, school and The Guys Are Props Club to keep her mind and hormones in check.
The club was founded by Jessica, Maddie’s best friend. It is a sisterhood of girls who have fallen prey to heartless jerks and who have vowed to turn the tables. Once a semester, Jessica requires members to “do onto others as they’ve done unto you.” Setting the example, Jessica’s next play is Sebastian Capello, a theater major with heartthrob looks and a flair for Latin dance, whose heart she plans to break the way hers was once broken.
What the friends don’t know is that Sebastian is different. Despite his perfect looks and popularity, he’s not a jerk. He doesn’t play games to get his way. Instead, he keeps it real and goes after what he wants with honest intentions. And what he wants is not a bombshell like Jessica, but a down-to-earth girl like Maddie – even if it causes a riff in the girl’s friendship. Even if it means getting Maddie to break her personal vow.
*** Due to language and sexual situations this book is recommended for ages 17 and older.

Review:

Maddie and Jessica were best friends who founded the Guys Are Props club their freshmen year of college after both having their hearts broken. The club started as one thing, a place to whine and talk about the guys who broke their hearts with others who had been in the same situation. Over the year the club has slowly evolved into something else completely.

I hated that Maddie’s character was sometimes a doormat when it came to Jessica. She always did what Jessica wanted her to even when she didn’t agree with it. It drove me crazy that she wouldn’t always stand up for herself.

I think what I loved most about the book was watching Maddies character evolve. I enjoyed watching her journey as she was trying to figure out her life. I enjoyed seeing her in her element when she was able to be herself instead of being this completely different person she was when she was with Jessica.

All of the characters were great because they all possessed real characteristics. Jessica was that girl that you end up friends with because of one thing you have in common but you’re not always sure where her loyalties lie. Maddie was the girl who was still trying to figure out who she was, and Sebastian was the biggest surprise because he turned out to be a complete opposite of what kind of character I first thought he would be.It was great seeing that even when you feel lost and alone that you can still move forward, find your way and be happy.

All in all I really enjoyed this book and if your addicted to the NA genre like I am, you should definitely check it out.

Excerpt:

As I dipped a French fry in a little tub of ketchup, I looked around the food court. My breath caught when I spotted Sebastian, sitting several rows across from me. He was talking animatedly with two guys. The fact that both of his table companions were extremely handsome wasn’t lost on me and promptly reminded me of Rule No.4: Players normally travel in packs. One of them was blond and thick as a tree. The other one thin in a super model kind of way.
