Today I have the pleasure of hosting an Interview with the fabulous Evelyn Lafont author of The Vampire Relationship Guide Vol.1.
Synopsis (Goodreads):
Josie wants what she's never been able to have--sex with a vampire. When she receives an invitation to a party thrown by one of the world's richest vamps, she doesn't stop to question her luck; she just jumps into her favorite stilettos and heads out to the event of a lifetime, secretly hoping that she'll come home with a party favor in the shape of a sexy coffin dweller.
But the great undead, much to Josie's chagrin, aren't just pale sexbots with pointy teeth waiting to satisfy her carnal desires; they are dangerous--and sometimes cranky. With a single-minded focus on fulfilling her sole sexual longing, Josie unwittingly entrenches herself in the twisted and sometimes antagonistic world of vampire relationships with no one to guide her, but herself.
Interview:
Since I love twitter, I think it would be fun to see how you would describe your book Twitter-style. How would you describe it in 140 characters or less?
What happens when a girl who's obsessed w/pop culture vampires meets & dates a couple? Awkward, sexy, funny, surprising stuff--that's what.
When did you know you wanted to become a writer or have you always known?
I didn't always know. I've been writing in a corporate capacity for years. After taking my ability and using it for good (in the form of a couple of funny essays) I decided that it would be a good career change for me and I became a freelancer. Then, at the end of last year, I decided to start writing fiction as well.
What was the hardest part of writing the book?
Honestly, the writing process is so fun, the worst part is the typing.
What inspired the concept for The Vampire Relationship Guide?
I was taking a class on fiction writing and for one of the assignments I decided to write a satirical magazine article on breaking up with a vampire boyfriend. The idea grew from there.
Can you tell us a little bit about your writing environment and/or and rituals you go through before sitting down to write?
I have an office in my home where I do most of my writing. I usually like to have coffee or tea around when I write, a little soft music and some smelly candles are nice. Funny, I just noticed my writing ritual is almost identical to my sex ritual. Spooky.
What is your favorite Book or Series?
Oh, man, that's impossible. Uh...very favorite? Single most favorite? I can't choose just one. I love the Southern Vampire series, the Casa Dracula series, and--oh, the Glory St. Clair (Real Vampires) and Succubus Blues series....s. I really could go on for days here...
If you could be a character from one of your favorite books, who would you be?
You know, I'm having such a ball with my own life, I can't imagine switching it for someone else's. Even a heroine's ;-)
Do you listen to music while you write, if so what’s on your playlist?
I like to listen to Brian Eno, the Amelie soundtrack, Edith Piaf, Les Baxter, Bowie instrumental tracks, lounge music from the 40's through the 60's, and a little Angelo Badalamenti.
Since your book is about dating hot vamps, what hot Vamp from another book would you date if you could?
I LOVE THIS QUESTION NERISSA! Okay, I love Ian in the Casa Dracula series, but would cheat on him with Eric from Southern Vampire Mysteries. Then, I'd have a weekend fling with a couple of lycanthropes from IAD and a horizontal lunch meeting with were tiger Quinn from Southern Vampire Mysteries.
What? Too much?
Thanks Evelyn for stopping by, this was such a fun interview.

This sounds like fun! Liking the cover too. Great interview. ;)
ReplyDeleteI agree this is a great interview! I loved reading this book - it was easy to sli into and connect with Josie and it kept me hooked until the end. I totally agree with Evelyn as well about writing being alot of fun, it's trying to type fast enough that's rough. When you get on a roll and the characters are talking to you, your fingers rebel from having to move so fast LOL
ReplyDeleteI too have enjoyed the Glory St Clair books . . I know I need to get caught up on them!
ReplyDeleteOne day . . I'm gonna have me a Valdez!

I agree, typing sucks! I swear one day I will give myself Carpal Tunnel. I love this book as well as was very sad when it ended. Majority of the book I was in stitches over Josie's smart comments. My husband even thought I was crazy as I sat there on the couch reading and laughing to myself.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait til the next book is out :)
Nina- you should definitely read it!
Great interview. I loved this book!!
ReplyDeleteI'm team Valdez too Stephanie! Can't help myself! Thanks everyone, glad you enjoyed the interview and understand the finger pain LMAO!
ReplyDeleteGena's books are so super good! I have and issue with her Intertwined YA series for some reason, but as for her other series I'm highly addicted. She's one of the only writers that I'm up to date on. I'm behind on Alien Huntress, but only a few books. But the rest I have read! I love Playing with Fire its sort of like a X-Men superhero deal, but with better humor =)
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed this one so much, I can't wait for the next one to come out!!!
