Laura Howard lives in New Hampshire with her husband and four children. Her obsession with books began at the age of 6 when she got her first library card. Nancy Drew, Sweet Valley High and other girly novels were routinely devoured in single sittings. Books took a backseat to diapers when she had her first child. It wasn’t until the release of a little novel called Twilight, 8 years later, that she rediscovered her love of fiction. Soon after, her own characters began to make themselves known.

Mary Crawford is a once aspiring screenwriter turned successful public relations executive, mother of two young children, and wife of a hotshot magazine editor whose power base spans the worlds of finance, fashion, culture, entertainment, and society. At 34, she finds herself at a crossroads: between the office and her home, her life has become an endless rotation of people pleasing-whether pulling rabbits out of hats for her mogul boss, entertaining advertisers and phony A-listers for her husband's magazine, or making elaborate costumes for children's school plays. At least, that is, until she meets a head turning, traffic stopping beauty at the bar of the famed Four Seasons Grill Room-where many of the novel's players regularly convene-and shortly thereafter finds the same woman and her husband in an apparently compromising position in her own apartment.
And so begins the story of two very different women bound by similar missions-to uncover the crimes and betrayals of various men in their lives and finally put their own interests front and center. For Mary this ultimately means leaving a husband who is ideal in theory but not in practice, and deciding to risk security for self-fulfillment and a new life on her own. Like so many women, Mary fell for the man she married when she was in her twenties only to realize years later that it wasn't him she fell for as much as it was the idea of him-the idea of a savior who would protect and provide and ferry her from her past into the future. But the guy who seemed so right at the time turned out to be nothing more than a fantasy. ~Goodreads

Seventeen-year-old Bianca Piper is cynical and loyal, and she doesn't think she’s the prettiest of her friends by a long shot. She’s also way too smart to fall for the charms of man-slut and slimy school hottie Wesley Rush. In fact, Bianca hates him. And when he nicknames her “the Duff,” she throws her Coke in his face.
But things aren’t so great at home right now, and Bianca is desperate for a distraction. She ends up kissing Wesley. Worse, she likes it. Eager for escape, Bianca throws herself into a closeted enemies-with-benefits relationship with him.
Until it all goes horribly awry. It turns out Wesley isn’t such a bad listener, and his life is pretty screwed up, too. Suddenly Bianca realizes with absolute horror that she’s falling for the guy she thought she hated more than anyone.~Goodreads

I love, love this story. It was such an exciting fast pace read. There were situations that tugged at my heart strings and made me want to cry. This book covered so many things and issues teens deal with such as self-esteem, name calling.

At times I just wanted to reach into the book and hug Bianca. I mean seriously someone can only deal with so much in their lives before they crack. The two main characters were so real I felt as if I could have been either of them like my life was being read back to me.

You don’t realize how it sometimes hard to deal with the situations you face and sometimes running and not facing your issues seem so much easier. But, in reality they never go away sometimes they just get worse.

Take a cynical character, toss her world upside down and see how she deals with it. She’s very vivacious and a strong character and I loved being able to see that she had weaknesses too, this is what made her so realistic to me. In everyone and everything there is always some good and sometimes you are lucky enough to find it.

This is a book that I wished I didn't wait so long to read but I am definitely going to dive right into Shut Out now. This book is about finding yourself and realizing that it’s okay to sometimes need someone to confide in, that it’s only human to show your weaknesses.

Thank you Ms. Keplinger for writing such an honest and heartbreaking real story.Nerissahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01248111148399749128noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1967561176344703018.post-65240135574756392872013-10-30T08:46:00.001-04:002013-10-30T09:05:52.691-04:00Blog tour: Relic (Books of Eva #1) by Heather Terrell

2. I love to travel, and while I have been fortunate enough to explore a lot of the world, I still have Egypt, Jordan, Israel, and the Arctic regions -- not a shocker given the RELIC setting -- on my bucket list.

6. When I’m writing, I have to listen to the same music over and over; I really can’t deviate. For RELIC, I listened to Coldplay’s Mylo Xyloto and Mumford & Sons’ Babel so many times I lost count. I’m transitioning my music for the sequel to RELIC because I really can’t listen to either album again.

Summary: I’m Charlotte York, but you can call me Char. My life is perfect. Except for the fact that my older sister is posing naked for Playboy. And my mom wants me to be just like her. Oh, and I caught my boyfriend cheating on me. But other than that, it’s definitely perfect... Until the paparazzi publishes a picture of me smoking weed. Now I am being forced to move to NYC with my dad. Too bad I hate New York. At least there is Tristan Becker. He makes NY better. But he won’t date me because he thinks my best friend is in love with me. Which is absolutely not true... Or at least I don't think it is.As you can see my life is just... perfect.

<span style="font-family: "Lucida Bright","serif";">I have to
say I’ve read the Rockstar Trilogy series by Mercy Amare and I loved the books.
But, there was just something about this book that I completely adored and I have
to say this is my new favorite book from this author. It might be the
relationship between the characters, the challenges they overcome and the way
the story kind of came together so effortlessly. The main character Char’s life might seem
perfect but it’s a lot to deal with when your family is always in the spotlight
and you have to deal with how that affects your everyday life. She has an
amazing best friend who was her lifeline while growing up and then life throws
you a curve ball and changes your life in that instance, this happens to Char.

<span style="font-family: "Lucida Bright","serif";">I loved
that you were able to see all of the obstacles that each character had to face
and that not everyone was who you thought they were. I think the biggest thing that
I loved about the book was that everyone makes mistakes and you learn from them
and find a way to redeem yourself. That, I think is what ultimately made me
love this book.

EXCERPT:

The bat connected with something solid, and a soft grunt escaped the man’s lips, followed by a soft oath that would’ve put even the meanest of sailors to shame.
“Are you trying to kill me? What the hell are you doing?”
Wait just a second, I know that voice.
“Kyran? Kyran!” I couldn’t believe my eyes. He really was standing there, clad in nothing but a pair of jeans.
“Are you trying to behead me?” His expression was one of puzzlement and anger combined.
“I was, actually.” He rubbed his forearm vigorously and I deduced that was where the bat made contact. Boy, I had the worst aim ever. How did I manage to hit his arm when I was aiming for his head?
“Why?” he snapped.
That did it. That tone he used infuriated me all over again. “Oh, hold on just a second here. I should be asking all the questions, not you. What the hell are you doing roaming around my house in the middle of the night anyway? What kind of sick pervert are you?”
“This isn’t your house. Haven’t you noticed we’re in the middle of the woods?” God, I wanted to slap him so bad.
“The hell we are! This is my father’s land and you’re trespassing.” He scoffed, and I had the sudden urge to go for a second blow. This close, I was pretty confident I would make a crude indentation in his skull.
“Do you enjoy peeping at other people? Is that, like, something you get off on?”
Had I not been so angry, I would’ve laughed at his expression. His face registered shock, disbelief, and surprise all at once.
“No! I’m not that kind of person,” he barked.
“Really? ’Cause I’m pretty sure it was you I saw here last night, and I’m really pissed off right now. You better have a good excuse as to why you’re walking around on my father’s property half naked.”
He turned his face away and refused to answer.
“All right, I’m calling the police.” I didn’t have my cell, but hell, he didn’t know that.
“What’re you going to call the police with, the bat?”
Damn him. “No, I…have…my cell.” Somewhere out there, where it’s doing me no good.
He sneered. “Right.”
“You didn’t answer my question, Kyran. What’re you doing out here?”
“What’re you doing out here?”
“Damn it, Kyran, don’t test me because I’ll knock that pretty little head of yours right off those broad shoulders.” Was I giving him a compliment while simultaneously threatening to decapitate him? Leave it to me to come up with a sentence like that one.
“I’d like to keep my pretty little head, thank you very much,” he said hotly. His answer, however sarcastic it was, almost made me laugh and I had to bite my lower lip to keep from smiling. He looked so cute when he was annoyed.

But now her ex-fiancé is the town planner, the biggest business is closed, and the only store interested in Celebration, NY is a Megamart. On top of it all, the liaison for the big, bad, box store is Marcus Weaver, her childhood crush. And he’s still as dangerously delectable as ever.
Marcus unwillingly spent his teens in Celebration with his vindictive, drunken uncle. As far as Marcus is concerned, the town’s only use is to cement his rise up the corporate ladder. He needs that Megamart opened, and Ivy is his ticket. But the sexy, stubborn mayor could also be his downfall.
As the unemployed townspeople put on the pressure, Ivy needs to do something. With a fresh downtown-renewal project in the works, Ivy could stop Marcus and his Megamart before they kill the town’s spirit. But with sparks flying between Ivy and Marcus, they each need to decide what’s more important: their careers or their hearts.

Guest Post:

No Celebration is Perfect

There’s a reason why white picket fences, winding cobblestone streets and overflowing flower boxes are such iconic images of small town life. They offer a glimpse into domestic perfection, where your neighbors are friendly, your dog is the best dog in the world, your garden is abundant and your porch swing is perfectly calibrated for lulling you into…boredom. Yep, mind-numbing boredom. And not just because the town is small, but because nothing juicy ever really happens.

We all want juicy, don’t we? Especially in romance. So when I went about creating Celebration, NY, the setting for Ivy Entwined, I knew that it couldn’t be greeting card perfect, despite the name. Not by a long shot. You see, I’ve lived in small towns, as I’m sure many of you have. And small towns DO have charm, and no matter what visitors’ bureau brochures say, the charm does not lie in a historic clock tower or a two block stretch of gracious homes. The charm lies in idiosyncrasies. Special, unique characteristics that grow authentically over time are what make small towns awesome.

That sense of authenticity combined with my wacko sense of humor are what gave birth to Celebration: a town where people are out of work, but they celebrate holidays like it’s their job. It’s the reason for tattered but proud tinsel wreaths on every street lamp, ugly Christmas sweater parties and parades in near-zero temperatures. The people of the town come together…a lot of the time because of civic pride, but some of the time because they have to even when they don’t want to, just like all extended families. It’s why a retired, cat-obsessed English teacher and a donut-obsessed grocery store manager both serve on the town council. And it’s why Ivy, the heroine of my story, fills her father’s shoes as mayor…and why the delicious guy she crushed on in junior high comes back and tries to save the town, on his own terms. Which definitely aren’t hers.

The picket fences in Celebration are peeling, potholes fill the streets and there aren’t any flowers because it’s freaking freezing outside. But I’d still love for you to stop on by, talk to Ivy’s potty-mouthed grandma, eat some French toast at the diner, and get the latest gossip!

The result? Romance novels! Her favorite thing ever since she was, oh, about twelve. She writes contemporary, light novels and enjoys creating quirky characters and funny dialogue. Still, the love story is the focus and Laura has a huge soft spot for a sappy, happy ending. She lives in North Carolina with her husband (true love is real!) and her adorable, high energy four year old son who is currently obsessed with pirates. When not playing mamma pirate, she loves hearing from readers and you can find your favorite way to say hi via the social media buttons on her website: www.laurasimcox.com

A young-adult paranormal novel about selkies, tasers, kissing and secrets.
To Cassandra Kelleher, trust is a dirty word.
A teenage selkie who grew up on land, all she wants is to free her family from the man who stole their sealskins long ago. With her twin brother Brennan losing hope and her window of opportunity disappearing like the beach at high tide, she’ll try anything.
Before long, however, Cassandra can’t tell whether her biggest threat is the man holding her family captive, a classmate who’s discovered her secret, or her own paranoia. Battling broken friendships and alarming romantic entanglements, Cassandra finds that trust could be the key to winning her family’s freedom … or losing her own.

Cute guys are players and not to be trusted, a fact she learned the hard way when her first boyfriend ran her heart through a paper shredder. Two years later, her promise is still intact, and she’s determined to make it through college without falling victim to another creep. She has her job, school and The Guys Are Props Club to keep her mind and hormones in check.

The club was founded by Jessica, Maddie’s best friend. It is a sisterhood of girls who have fallen prey to heartless jerks and who have vowed to turn the tables. Once a semester, Jessica requires members to “do onto others as they’ve done unto you.” Setting the example, Jessica’s next play is Sebastian Capello, a theater major with heartthrob looks and a flair for Latin dance, whose heart she plans to break the way hers was once broken.

What the friends don’t know is that Sebastian is different. Despite his perfect looks and popularity, he’s not a jerk. He doesn’t play games to get his way. Instead, he keeps it real and goes after what he wants with honest intentions. And what he wants is not a bombshell like Jessica, but a down-to-earth girl like Maddie – even if it causes a riff in the girl’s friendship. Even if it means getting Maddie to break her personal vow.

Review:

I have been a fan of Denise Grover Swank since I read one of her first books Twenty-Eight and a half Wishes. Whenever, I see that she has released a new book I’m excited and antsy to get my hands on it because I know the book will never disappoint me. This book was no exception. I LOVED this book; I have to say it’s one of my favorites.

The story was just plain beautiful, I loved the chemistry of the characters, and the way it slowly unravels. Yes, this book has the typical good girl/bad boy scenario but it’s there’s so much more to the story. It’s about dealing with the life that you have been dealt and making what you think is the best choice. It’s about realizing that sometimes maybe the choices you made weren’t the right one, and that there is happiness on the other end.

There were so many of those tender sweet moments in the story that made me smile to myself and then there were the moments when I cried. The story was extremely well written; I connected with the characters because their choices, their emotions, and their reactions to each other were so realistic. It wasn’t forced you could see the connection between these two characters who are both hiding behind their past and both holding back from truly living.

If you haven’t already read this story, you should definitely pick it up. I promise you won’t be disappointed.
I go into the bathroom and change before I get Tucker’s water. When I return, he’s snoring again. I set the water on the nightstand then turn toward the door.

“Why are you always running away from me?”

I look over my shoulder and his eyes are closed, but the back of his forearm covers his forehead. “You were asleep. I didn’t want to bother you.”

“Where are you going? This is your bed.”

“It’s okay. I’m going to sleep on the sofa.”

He pushes himself into a sitting position. “No, Scarlett. It’s your bed. You should sleep here.”

“It’s okay, really. You need to sleep it off.”

“Please. Stay.” He reaches for me, hopelessness washing off of him in thick waves.

Hypnotized by the despair in his eyes, I sink to the edge of the mattress.

He smiles, but it’s sad. He slips his hand into mine. “See? That wasn’t so hard.”

“Tucker…I can’t… I’m not…”

“I know, Scarlett. I would never ask you to. I’m still drunk, and you deserve better than that.”

The sincerity in his words freezes the air in my lungs.

He pulls me down next to him, and I find myself unable to resist.

We’re both on our sides, facing each other. He releases my hand and reaches for the side of my face,
brushing the hair off my cheek. His fingertips barely touch my skin, yet send shivers down my back. My stomach clenches.

“Sweet, sweet Scarlett.” His palm presses against my cheek as his fingers dig into my hair.

I close my eyes, my stomach tightening even more.

“I’ve never felt this with anyone. Ever,” he murmurs, his words fading.

Neither have I remains unsaid, but buried in my heart.

My panic builds like a storm in the back of my head. How can I be lying next to Tucker Price? How can I let him affect me so? But part of me is tired of basing every single decision in my life on reasoned and thought-out choices. Part of me wants to live.

I can’t help thinking about my conversation with Caroline days ago, when I told her that one didn’t live a little or a lot, they simply lived.

I finally get it.

Nevertheless, I can’t give any part of myself to this man. There may be a hidden window to his soul, but it is not my job to plumb its depths. I’m neither experienced nor jaded enough to survive the attempt.

But maybe I can steal this moment. Just for tonight
About the author:

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Denise Grover Swank was born in Kansas City, Missouri and lived in the area until she was nineteen. Then she became a nomadic gypsy, living in five cities, four states and ten houses over the course of ten years before she moved back to her roots. She speaks English and smattering of Spanish and Chinese which she learned through an intensive Nick Jr. immersion period. Hidden talents include the gift of justification and the ability to drink massive amounts of caffeine and still fall asleep within in two minutes. Her lack of the sense of smell allows her to perform many unspeakable tasks. She has six children and hasn’t lost her sanity. Or so she leads you to believe.
MY THOUGHTS:

I absolutely adored this book. This series has to be one of my favorites because you gradually see the main character grow throughout the series, Keatyn has so much thrown at here that she can’t help but grow up a little bit. I love that two people can read this book and both of you could relate to some aspect of the book and you can sit there analyzing it. The book is written so realistically that you could relate to the main character because at some point you probably had the same issues, insecurities, and drama in your lives. The author did an excellent job of building and developing the relationships between characters and making you fall in love/hate with all of them and not just the main character. This book made me an emotional mess there was times when I laughed uncontrollably, and then there were other times when I was so mad and felt betrayed. There were also the tender sweet romantic moments when you wanted to cry.

Date Me; the third book in the series is my favorite so far. The author developed some of the character more, like Aiden and Dallas where you were able to learn more about them and their back story and what really makes them who they are. There were tons of sweet, swoon worthy moments, as well as some really scary ones. Keatyn also starts to really make friends in this book. I really can’t gush enough about this book, but, I have to stop here because otherwise it would be tons of spoilers. Trust me run out and grab this book, you will thank me later.

I’m super excited to have In Search of a Love Story author Rachel Schurig stopping by the blog today. Check out her guest post that I’m super excited about below.

GUEST POST:

When I found out Nerissa had asked me to cast the characters of In Search of a Love Story, I had to laugh. Nerissa had no way of knowing it, but this is my favorite game to play! Seriously, my best friend and I have spent HOURS facebook chatting about how we would cast my books and sending each other pictures of all of our choices. These are the actors I’ve narrowed it down to. I would love to hear from readers of the book—do you think I’ve made the right choices? Who would YOU pick?

Emily:

Emily is tall, blond, and athletic. She’s beautiful and in great shape. She looks great all dressed up but can also rock a pair of sweats and a t-shirt. I picture her as a Blake Lively type.

Ashley:

Emily’s best friend Ashley is a little bit shorter with a sweet face and brown curly hair. She works as a kindergarten teacher, is very kind, and loves everything to do with romance. I think Sarah Ramos is super cute and is pretty much just how I picture Ashley.

Ryan:

Ryan is one of Emily’s best friends. He’s very stylish and very good looking. He helps Emily get in touch with her romantic side and helps direct her “makeover.” I see Ryan played by Michael B. Jordan.

Chris:

Ashley’s boyfriend. Chris is somewhat nerdy looking but very cute. He’s most comfortable in cargo pants and a hoodie and does research at a university. Andrew Garfield would be a good pick.

Brooke:

Brooke is very hard to cast. She’s absolutely gorgeous, very curvy, very sexy, very audacious looking. I still haven’t quite found the perfect actress for her, but Mila Kunis comes close.

Greg:

Emily’s boyfriend, Greg, is handsome, rich, and dashing. He’s athletic, enjoys golf, and spends a lot of time in suits. I think Tom Welling looks a lot like Greg.

Elliot:

Elliot is Emily’s friend who she becomes closer to as the book progresses. Elliot is a total outdoors guy, he loves being active and out in nature. He has reddish curly hair and is usually a bit scruffy. Emily describes him as being a “total mountain man.” I think Chris Pratt is really cute and would be the perfect Elliot.

Well that was fun! It’s also fun to hear how other people see the characters I write. Do you think I made any huge mistakes in my “casting?”
Thanks for having me, Nerissa!

Emily Donovan doesn’t have a romantic bone in her body. At least, that’s what her friends Ryan and Ashley keep telling her. They’re convinced her bad luck with men is directly related to her life-long lack of interest in all things romantic. When Emily’s latest relationship crashes and burns, she decides to go along with her friends’ plans for a romance research project. Sure, the idea that she’ll have better luck if she learns about the great romances of literature and film seems a little silly, but Emily figures it can’t hurt. In no time at all, Emily finds herself buried under a mountain of romance novels, chick flicks, and sappy love songs, hopeful that her hard work will pay off with true love. When she meets Greg, Ashley and Ryan are convinced she’s found prince charming—after all, he’s rich, handsome, and totally into Emily. What more could she want? And why does it seem that her friend Elliot isn’t exactly happy for her? Faced with misunderstandings, miscommunications, and a seemingly endless string of missteps, she is nevertheless determined to give true love a try. In doing so, Emily will eventually find that true romance, the kind that lasts, has little to do with stereotypes or clichés, and everything to do with finding out what’s in her own heart. ~Goodreads
Review:

I was excited about being part of this book tour. I’ve always been a romantic at heart and although I do love to read other books there are times when I just want to read a sweet romantic story. This is what I found in this story.
This was a short and sweet read for me. Emily was a great main character whose had some bad luck in romance and she’s starting to think that maybe she’s got some bad luck or she’s looking for the wrong things. This is where her friends step in with their crazy romantic notions and antics and decide that the reason she hasn’t any luck is because she know nothing about romance. This leads to lots of laugh and ridiculousness. What I liked most about the story is that the author did a great job of creating so many memorable characters, Emily’s group of friends right down to the seniors that she looks after all added to the story for me.
The story was well written, as with most romance books the ending was predictable in the way it played out but, that’s why I read books in this genre because I love the happily ever after’s. Would I recommend this book to friends? Yes! It was a great read with lots of laughs and great characters. I would give it 4 Stars.
After I finished reading this book, I realized that there are two more books in the same world as this one but they are different characters stories. You should definitely check it out.
The intellectual challenge of college and the warm embrace of a serious boyfriend have given Maya the wings she needs to break away from her bookish and shy reserve. Her ideal life comes crashing down when she and her boyfriend are accosted by a stranger. A stranger with glowing hands.
Maya's boyfriend is killed. She is kidnapped. Changed.
A rescue comes, but not soon enough.
Maya’s senses sharpen, her body becomes strong and agile, and she develops the ability to visually see the emotions of those around her as colorful auras…beautiful auras…tempting auras.
And then there’s the song…
Now, Maya must struggle to control the murderous appetite that fuels her new abilities, accept her altered condition and learn to trust two vigilante half-brothers she never knew she had. As she joins the battle against a secret network of powerful and destructive beings that call themselves "Angels", Maya vows to find and destroy the one who changed her.
On the bright side, at least Maya's oldest half-brother has stopped trying to kill her.

After The Novel is Complete, the Fun Begins

Writing my debut paranormal novel, Falling - Girl With Broken Wings, was one of the most challenging and fulfilling things I’ve ever done. It took me two years to complete the novel, and seeing it on sale at Amazon, Barnes & Noble and Smashwords was one of the proudest moments of my life. I’m pretty sure I did a couple of backflips (I used to be a gymnast).

With my novel for sale, the world could follow the adventures of my quirky, decidedly non-heroic narrator, Maya, as she is kidnapped, changed into something beyond human and rescued by two vigilante half-brothers she never knew she had. The book is filled with action, humor, conflict, and deeply-wrought characters. In other words, it was pretty clear to me that I had an assured best-seller on my hands.

When the book went live, I proudly posted links to my Facebook and LinkedIn page, folded my hands behind my head and congratulated myself on a job well done. I guess I figured my friends and family would all rush to read it and post gushing reviews. Then all the invisible people on the Internet would just automatically find the book and decide to buy it, because….well, just because.
In a nutshell, this didn’t happen. I have since received an education that can be summed up like this: Writing the book is the easy part.

Most readers don’t realize that the majority of authors, including traditionally-published and self-published, spend a large chunk of time promoting their books to drive sales. The need to promote forces many an author into unknown and terrifying territory: extroversion.
Writers tend to be shy, introverted types. There are many exceptions to this stereotype. I am not one of them. Selling doesn’t come easy, but I wasn’t about to let my novel linger in obscurity. (Please begin humming Rocky theme song).

I spend the early part of each morning writing, the majority of the day doing that pesky job thing that allows me to buy food, gas and more books for my Kindle. At night, I try to tell the world about Falling. I join reader groups and message boards and post useful information, hoping that if someone appreciates my thoughts, they’ll click on the book link in my signature. I’ve created a Facebook page for my book and a website. I’ve put out a press release, spent way too much money on Google Ads and reached out to countless book review bloggers who have been amazingly supportive. And, of course, I’ve started to guest blog in the hopes that new readers will be attracted to my writing and decide to give my novel a chance.

It’s hard work, and on some nights every part of me just wants to watch the latest Game of Thrones episode instead of slogging through message boards trying to think of clever posts. As challenging as the situation is, however, we authors promote because we believe in our books. Readers are our greatest allies. They write positive reviews, “like” our Facebook pages and tell their friends about us.
Writing is and always will be the light of my life, but I spend just as much time promoting my work as creating it. One day, if my book is really as good as I believe it is, I may no longer have to promote it so heavily. Until that time comes, however, I’ll keep marketing and hoping that someone on the other end is listening.
I anxiously awaiting the final book in the Torn Trilogy by Erica O’Rourke.

I have to say I cannot wait until the final book in this series is released. I’ve been obsessively checking the author’s website and the publishers looking for a sneak peek of the final book but, haven’t found anything yet . Hello, June 26th hurry up and get here; I need to read this already.

This first book in the series Torn started off so-so for me, I wasn’t completed in love with the book but I liked it enough to read the second book and let me tell you this the second book had me completely hooked. I adored all of the characters and there were moments when I felt betrayed, I wanted to cry, or just chuck the book because it was a “WTF” moment but it was fantastic! I'm not a big fan of the book covers but, don't let it fool you.

If you haven't read this series before I suggest you skip the blurb for Bound below it's kind of a spoiler.
Today I would like to share an excerpt from the book. Thanks Andrea for providing me with this!

EXCERPT:

“Hey, look,” our tormentor teases, rising and looking around at everyone. “She’s so fat she probably broke her wrist by sitting on it! Little piggy, I think I might just smack you around for the hell of it!”
When she bends back down and grabs Abby’s shoulder, I grab her forearm. I feel my strength. I look down at my arm. My whole body is covered in goose bumps, and the tiny hairs on my neck are standing up. If I were to look in a mirror right now, I know my eyes would be losing their usual gray color, becoming completely colorless around the black pupils, and glowing a soft white light. This girl is a good seven or eight inches taller than me and has biceps a linebacker would envy, but at this moment, none of that matters.

Her look of amusement flashes to one of anger then confusion. I release Abby and slowly stand, maintaining my hold on the girl. Gripping her arm hard, I push her back several steps. Just like a scene from one of those cheesy 80s high school movies, silence descends in a wave across the cafeteria.

But this girl doesn’t realize yet that she should give up this fight she’s about to lose. “You little bitch! I’m gonna—hey! What are you doin’ to my arm?!” She wraps her free hand over my own that is still clutching her arm like a vise. Her whole body starts to shake, and she falls to her knees gripping my hand and trying to pry my fingers off. I can feel her short, jagged nails raking my hand and forearm, but I know nothing can break the contact. My mind is screaming to let go while there is still time to salvage this situation, to keep anyone from seeing my eyes, to keep this girl from being seriously hurt, and to keep from appearing as anything other than a typical student in this school. But my body, my hand, refuse to listen.

MY THOUGHTS:

First, I have to say don’t let the cover fool you; if you’re like me I tend to judge reading a book by the cover which is totally ridiculous but true. I would have completely missed out on a great story if I didn’t stop to read the synopsis. I really wasn’t sure what I was expecting when I started reading this book, this book was definitely one of those books that you pick up to read and it totally surprises you. I was definitely hooked within the first few chapters.

Vivian has always known she was different and has had to hide all of the things she could do, she lives with her Aunt Charlotte since he witnessed her mother’s murder at the age of five. She’s a good student, good niece and tries to stay out of trouble. But, she finds that she is the prime target of bullying by the “queen of the popular kids” Trista and over the years it has made it hard to control her powers since certain emotions tend to trigger her power. Her only comfort at school is her best friend
Abby who is ridiculed as much as Vivian is.

Vivian has to deal with the popular group who seriously go out of their way to bully Vivian and Abby. I really felt bad for her; I mean I seriously don’t ever remember school being that divided and if so I don’t remember popular kids tormenting anyone. The characters in this book took bullying to a
whole other level.

I really enjoyed Vivian as the protagonist; does she get bullied around a lot? Yes, but at the end of the day Vivian always tries to stand up for herself when every else just deals with what’s dished out at them.So for that I love her. I think her best friend has an interesting personality, she’s not afraid to stand up for herself but at the same time she’s insecure and sometimes I had no clue what she would do. She was totally random in her actions. Easton was a character that started growing on me by the end of the book, but I’m not sure I bought the romance;it was just way too fast for me.

I think what grabbed me most in the story was the fact that your taking this journey with Vivian, she’s not sure about all of her abilities and she’s learning what her strengths and weaknesses are along with the reader.I liked the mystery factor of the story surrounding the murder of her mother.

This story definitely left me wanting more, I still have so many unanswered questions, and I just realized book two has been released so I will definitely be grabbing a copy of it. Overall this story definitely was good it was slightly slow starting up for me but then out of nowhere things start happening and it really picked up towards the end, definitely had me wanting more. I would definitely recommend this book if you’re looking for a change from the typical paranormal books out there.

4 out of 5 stars

No, but 18-year-old Bria Sandoval wants to be. In a quest for independence, her neglected art, and no-strings-attached hookups, she signs up for a guided tour of Central America—the wrong one. Middle-aged tourists with fanny packs are hardly the key to self-rediscovery. When Bria meets Rowan, devoted backpacker and dive instructor, and his outspokenly humanitarian sister Starling, she seizes the chance to ditch her group and join them off the beaten path. Bria's a good girl trying to go bad. Rowan's a bad boy trying to stay good. As they travel across a panorama of Mayan villages, remote Belizean islands, and hostels plagued with jungle beasties, they discover what they've got in common: both seek to leave behind the old versions of themselves. And the secret to escaping the past, Rowan’s found, is to keep moving forward. But Bria comes to realize she can't run forever, no matter what Rowan says. If she ever wants the courage to fall for someone worthwhile, she has to start looking back.

My Thoughts:

I have to say this; I loved the raw and beautiful writing style of the author. Her words were magical and I just wanted to hang on to every word I read and savor it.

Bria Sandoval has just graduated high school and is trying to figure out what she’s going to do with her life; she’s also dealing with having her heart broken. Bria and her two best friends decide that they needed a break and should travel to Europe in the summer before starting college. Her friends end up backing out and Bria finds herself booking a trip with the Global Vagabond Tour group for a three week excursion traveling the ancient Mayan ruins.

This is where Bria’s journey begins, she finds herself traveling to a foreign country alone to prove that she can do things on her own when everyone else doubts her. After the break up, Bria feels as if she has lost her way and what defines her as an individual. She’s trying to figure things out as she travels amongst strangers in Guatemala from city to city.

An unfortunate event introduces Bria to Rowan, a seasoned backpacker who invites her to a party at the island he’s staying at. This is where everything changes for her, she somehow finds herself ditching the Global Vagabond tour group and accompanying Rowan and his sister backpacking city to city.

She’s lost what defines her as a person, she’s lost her love for art and everything she holds dear to herself. This book was so much more than just a book about a girl traveling it’s about finding yourself and that things happen for a reason although you might not necessarily know what they are at the time. It’s about discovery and learning that you can overcome even what seems to be the hardest thing to deal with in your life at the time.

After reading this book, I wanted to do two things;

a. Pick up a backpack and go backpacking across Central America, even though I'm definitely not in my twenty's anymore.

b. I felt inspired to do something more, to not give up on something that I might love just because the circumstances aren’t right.

I absolutely adored this story; there was so much in the back story. The descriptions of her travels were beautiful and captivating. When Bria described locations I wanted to reach out and touch it, I wanted to take a deep breath and smell the air that she talked about. The author definitely has a way with words and painted the most beautiful story.

This book deserves 5 out of 5 stars.

Okay, So I'm really excited about sharing this cover reveal with you because first this book sounds fantastic and it has all of the elements I love in a good book, fantasy, mystery and Greta sounds kind of kick-ass being as she is a bounty hunter.

Second, the cover is gorgeous and has definitely caught my attention with the mythical kind of hazy background in contrast to the brighter color in the girls jacket.
About the Author:

Chloe Jacobs is a native of nowhere and everywhere, having jumped around to practically every Province of Canada before finally settling in Ontario where she has now been living for a respectable number of years. Her husband and son are the two best people in the entire world, but they also make her wish she'd at least gotten a female cat. No such luck. And although the day job keeps her busy, she carves out as much time as possible to write. Bringing new characters to life and finding out what makes them tick and how badly she can make them suffer is one of her greatest pleasures, almost better than chocolate and fuzzy pink bunny slippers.

I loved The Restorer, the first book in the Graveyard Queen Series it was definitely one of my favorite books in 2011 and this book is no exception. The world building is fantastic and unlike other ghost stories I’ve read, this book will definitely have you sleeping with the lights on. The words seem to come to life and give off this scary and mesmerizing emotion that you can’t shake. I want to keep reading the book but yet at the same time I am afraid to find outwhat will happen next.

The story is the continuation to The Restorer and it follows Amelia Gray to another restoration job in Asher Falls. From the minute Amelia arrives she know ssomething is off kilter, everyone there is mysterious and strange. Amelia sets off to start her restoration project but she instead finds herself entangled in a mystery that is much older and deeper than she could ever imagine.

The story definitely takes creepy to another level. The writing is captivating and once you find yourself pulled in to Amelia’s world it’s hard to disentangle yourself from it. If I thought that the idea of ghost feeding off of your warmth and energy was frightening it does not compare to what lurks after twilight in Asher Falls. I loved that we learn more about her family, and at times I feel really bad for Amelia because she really has no one to confide in about what she’s going through and she’s utterly alone.

The story was definitely fast paced and pulled me along for a crazy and at times terrifying ride, whenever I thought that maybe I had figured out the plot I was thrown a curve ball until the last minute. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series.

4.5 out of 5 Stars.

Nerissahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01248111148399749128noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1967561176344703018.post-63486982479620661932012-03-21T12:51:00.000-04:002012-03-21T12:51:57.265-04:00Waiting on Wednesday (26)

Her books introduced me to a whole new genre of books that I've never even thought about reading before. See, I am not the type to watch horror movies not even the stupid ones like Scream and I Know What you Did Last Summer so I had this screwy misperception that horror and paranormal books would be the same thing. So I backed away from the books and stuck to my ever beloved John Grisham books. I didn't realize there was a difference in the genres until I read that book.

What made me purchase the first book I have no clue, but I'm thankful that I branched out and did. Her books have become my favorite and I have totally fallen in love with this genre and it's not all about sparkling vamps either.

So recently I decided to read her young adult series, I knew it existed because I googled all of her books once I had finished The Shifters series but, for whatever reason reading about banshees did not appeal to me. Two years later and I finally picked the book up after hearing tons and tons of great things about it on twitter. Can I just say this; I'm kicking myself now for not reading it before. I shouldn't have expected anything less than one heck of a roller coaster ride, that left me gasping for air when I turned the last page of the book. The series is so much more than just about banshees, it's about sixteen year old Kaylee and her journey to finding out who she is and what she would sacrifice for the ones she loves. There's heart break, love, danger, loyalty, and sacrifice.

If you haven't tried any of her books, I think now would be a great time to check them out. If you do let me know what you thought, did you love them like I did?
